Product Description This set adjusts from 3-24 lbs in 3 lb increments (3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24 lbs) in each hand. This set has a maximum weight of 24 lbs per hand and cannot be made heavier than the 24 lb maximum weight per hand.
It replaces 8 pair or 16 fixed dumbbells that would have a combined weight of 216 lbs.
Amazon.com Product Description The only dumbbell system that can expand to meet your strength needs, PowerBlock dumbbells are the most versatile and effective exercise tool ever developed for strength training. PowerBlocks work intuitively. Rather than requiring you to buy a room full of dumbbells, PowerBlocks act just like a weight stack at the gym, with a weight handle that fits inside the first weight, which fits inside the second, which fits inside the third, etc. When you want to change weights, you simply move the weight selector pin into the appropriate slot and you're set. As you lift the core, all the weights above the selector pin are lifted at the same time, turning your 3-pound dumbbell into a 6-pound dumbbell, or your 6-pound dumbbell into a 12-pound dumbbell. Not only is the system remarkably easy to use, but it's also cost- and space-efficient, as a single pair of dumbbells can do the work of dozens. This pair of SportBlock 24x3 dumbbells, for instance, adjusts from 3 to 24 pounds in 3-pound increments (3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, and 24 pounds), in effect doing the job of 16 individual weights. Even better, the weights are more compact and balanced than traditional dumbbells, with a padded handle that protects people with weak wrists. Best of all, the free weights are terrific whether you're trying to build muscle mass, firm and tone your physique, or get rid of unwanted body fat. The SportBlock set offers a maximum weight of 24 pounds per hand and carries a limited 10-year warranty.

good product July 20, 2010 daddio (TEXAS) I like the powerblocks and they change fairly easy. Sometimes you can get the pin crossways but it is not hard to correct. I also have the bowflex 52.5 lbs. and think they are the best on the market. The question will be how much do you want to spend and how much weight do you need. This product works fine and I would recommend it but the bowflex dumbells are the best. This product is smaller and better for someone not needing the extra weight of the bigger dumbell.
Excellent dumbbells for workout videos like P90X July 9, 2010 MG I've been using these SportBlocks for a little over a month now as part of my workout routine. For my purposes of gaining a moderate amount of size and then toning, these have been perfect.
I find the weights to be easy to swap between and relatively quick. It takes a bit of practice (especially on carpet) to get the safety pin locked on the correct weight and securely. On carpet, the trick is to push down on the handle when inserting the pin. Just make sure it "clicks" when fully inserted to know it's secure. Rarely do I need to press pause between reps when needing to swap to a heavier or lighter weight.
The safety pin could use a re-design. It is plastic and flexible which can sometimes allow you to incorrectly misalign on two different weights, or split the pin around two weights. As long as you're paying attention, usually not a problem.
Pros:
3-24 lbs is perfect for my frame and workout purpose
I don't have 3 pairs of standard weights sitting around cluttering my living room
Quick switch between weights is easy and color coded
Rubberized grip is easy to grasp and does not slip
Cons:
The safetey pin is made of plastic and flexes.
Minor issue, but the stickers on the top of the handle on my weight were not aligned properly. Because it's a thick plastic sticker, it's cause a few scraped wrists. I just peeled them off and re-applied.
Rattles a bit when moving around but appears to be secure provided the pin is properly aligned
I'm very happy with these weights to date. They are well made overall, versatile, and easy to swap out during a workout routine. Not to mention less clutter in the living room to keep the wife happy. Bonus points!
Fast-Changing, Perfect if You Don't Need Heavy Weight June 25, 2010 HTBK (San Francisco, CA USA) First things first: if you need weight higher than 24 pounds, these are not the weights for you, as they're not expandable, unlike most other PowerBlock systems. If you don't need heavier weight, however, look no further - these are the best, most durable, quickest adjusting dumbbells you can get. It's a great set for home workouts quick changes to the amount you're lifting, like P90X.
I bought these weights as a gift for my wife, and she loves them. Before these, she was using resistance bands for P90X, and since buying these, she has not looked back. I have a heavier, expandable PowerBlock set, and tried a few others in my search for those. The design of this set is my favorite.
The biggest advantage is the speed and ease of switching. There are no internal handle weights that you have to remove and add to make small changes, nor are there multiple dials that can take awhile to line up like with some competitors. You simply put the handle into the stack and adjust the bar. The set feels safe and solid, and this is of course more cost-effective and space-efficient than buying sets of 3s, 6s, 9s, 12s, 15s, 18s, 21s, and 24s.
For someone who isn't looking to add bulk or lift heavy weights, this is an excellent buy.
Exactly what I was looking for June 13, 2010 Adam Nachand (Burnsville, MN) These are exactly what I wanted for my P90X experience. They are affordable and sturdy, unlike some other cheaper adjustable dumbbells I looked at. I find no trouble at all in changing weight quickly. I am able to change them on carpet without issue as well (although my carpet isn't plush, so I would assume that situation would be remedied with a piece of cardboard or wood---stands are not needed in my opinion unless you want them up higher). My only minor complaint is the handles are smooth. Again, not a problem for me since I wear gloves, but if I didn't have gloves, the smooth surface would make them slide in sweaty hands. The blocks feel natural and balanced, so I am overall extremely pleased. Not as "sexy" as the Bowflex models, but certainly a much better deal price-wise.
Great weights, greater price! April 21, 2010 K. Hilton (California) I have been looking for adjustable weights and they are either cheaply made or way too expensive. I think these are a good balance between price and functionality. There was no way I was spending $400 on the Bowflex ones, and when I tried the Reebok ones at Target, they were tres cheap (not sturdy enough)! It is a little fidgety to get used to how they work, but it only takes a few tries to get it down. I like the color coding of the weight increments, makes it easier when you're trying to shift from one exercise to the next. I use them with a series of videos (Chalean Extreme) which are constantly changing weights between exercises, and I found them very manageable. Also, I like how compact they are to store and to use. The Bowflex ones look so ungainly when you're using lower weights. I think this is a great product, and I highly recommend it!!
