5 out of 5 stars Well worth the money!!   July 4, 2010
Tricia Fleming (CARLE PLACE, NEW YORK, US)
I bought this product after searching on ebay, and many other sites. There was only one other company that sold adjustable combined 20 pd total weights, and I only saw 2 reviews for that, compared to the Valeo brand same item, which had a number of reviews. Overall I love mine. They must have made the plastic covering the weights, from a sturdier material because it definately looks durable, but I still won't manhandle it too much. I did wiggle the weights into their slots, as was mentioned by another reviewer and it slipped in easy. It's also very easy to take in and out of the slots. I am 5 ft 10 in, and weight 170, so yes, the weights do look extremely large and bulky on your ankles, but I don't care, I didn't buy it for style. I knew how to adjust it around my ankles when I got mine, and after I changed the weights to 6 pds each, I figured out how to wrap them as tight as possible around my leg. Yes it does slip down from your lower shin and sits on your ankles and the top of your feet, but if your wearing socks and sneakers, you should be fine (might hurt after walking in them though, but hey they are weights!) I have yet to buy wrist bands and try to put them around my ankle and then put the weights over that (as suggested by another reviewer)to see if it makes a difference in keeping them up. The velcro is made of tough stuff so it doesn't look like it will break anytime soon.I have so far walked around my job and my house in them and MAN!! I felt it after a 1/2 hr. So you can definately feel yourself working your legs and stomach muscles a little more. I am now going to try walking a good 2 hrs with them on around a track and see how I feel after that. I will review again in another 2 months see how I feel about them then.

2 out of 5 stars Black Sand Blues   May 20, 2010

I used to have ankle weights with iron bars in them. They were a bit uncomfortable, and after about 8-10 years the nylon wore out and the bars started slipping out. So I got these Valeo weights March of last year - a bit more than a year ago. They were more comfortable (though still not very comfortable) and I had to put my foot up on a stool to support them as I put them on.

I use them for about 1-2 hours twice a week on the average. Today, black sand started coming out - they were worn through at the inside bottom. Compared to my previous iron-bar weights, or my expectations, this isn't very durable.

I will be trying a different and more expensive brand this time - the Altus Athletic 20-Pound Standard Ankle / Wrist Weights offered by Amazon. Almost twice the cost. I'll see if I get twice the wear out of them.

5 out of 5 stars Good Weights   April 19, 2010

Trying to get into running with the wife, she has little legs so this makes a perfect handicap for me. Starting small, just the 2lbs and it makes a great difference in the run... I feel like I'm getting a workout now. That's all I wanted.

They didn't come with any instructions on how to wear, and for a person who doesn't work out all that much it would've helped. Luckily I figured out I could tuck part of it in to make it a bit smaller, except now I have two D-rings rubbing against the leg during the run. Not terrible though, once I add more weights it will likely get bigger around and I won't have to tuck anything in.

Good product, well made. For my uses, I'm happy 100%.

1 out of 5 stars exauhsting to put on and off   March 25, 2010

I am looking for new weights because these are so hard to use. It is difficult to get them tight enough, changing weight is so time consuming, and they are very bulky.

1 out of 5 stars Terrible, do not buy   March 18, 2010

The weights are awkward, bulky, and do not fit well. The modular sandbags are hard to put back in.
