A 30 sec break - Maybe ..... June 15, 2010 Jill Ayers (NJ) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
just keep going for another 15 seconds on the reps you were just doing then 15 sec of a light jog - or 30 seconds of a moderate/light jog? I also added some bicep curls, tricep kickbacks that helped with the "breaks". You should know at what pace to work your heart in intervals if you are not new to exercise.
I think the set up with breaks would work very well for an out of shape person with a 5 pound kettlebell. As you get better add higher weighted bells, shorten your breaks as you get stronger and it takes less to bring your heart rate down - interval training needs to be paced for your fitness level - so for some it just may take that 30 seconds.
I just tried this today and started with my 10 pound and before the first set of reps I jumped to my 15. That bumped it up nicely. I got a very nice work out. I will add it as one of my weekly workouts.
Pros:
Nice instruction sections - easy to follow.
Nice set of reps and exercises, with the right weight you can get your heart rate up.
Easy to follow.
Cons:
The production quality is equal to a nice video camera, not high end stuff you see from TheFrim, Gin Miller and other more famous instructors/companies (not that guarantees a quality work out!)
Inadequate warm up to say the least - makes me not want to recommend to a beginner - What was she thinking.
What I am shocked at and that no one mentioned this that I saw - NO COOL DOWN unless I missed it? Please tell me I missed it somehow
A simple kettlebell circuit interval workout March 24, 2010 Dan Benge (Atlanta, GA United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Not a bad beginners Kettlebell Training DVD at all. She leads you through three interval circuits and mixes them up a little each time. For example, she starts adding more arm swings into the second circuit, etc.
Each interval has relatively low repetitions, so for more advanced Kettlebell folks, I'd recommended using a higher weight. I use this DVD for my "recovery days" when I don't feel like taking a complete break from my weekly routine.
Remember, this is an INTERVAL CIRCUIT workout. This means there are 30 second breaks between each exercise and this is intentional because you are supposed to be going as heavy as you can. If you aren't winded by the second circuit, you need to be using a heavier kettlebell.
Kettlebell workout January 25, 2010 Janeale Durand I ordered this originally because I thought I was getting a kettlebell. When I did get my kettlebell, which I love, I did this workout. It's quite a good workout. The only thing I have a problem with on this video is the 30 second and 1 minute break times between exercises. I don't know enough about kettlebell workouts to know if this is the norm or not, so I just fast forward through these breaks.
Frustrating January 15, 2010 R. Frye (Louisville, CO United States) Let me join the chorus of reviewers who complain that there are too many breaks in this video. I've had it a week and have used it 3 times (w/ a 10-lb. kettlebell). The instructor makes the viewer take a 30 second break after each set of exercises! Literally, sometimes after just 10-20 reps, you take a 30 second break! 30 seconds is a very long time to take a drink of water and catch your breath (I often don't need to do either).
I've done many workout videos over the years, and I don't remember one with so many long rest periods. She also has you take a couple 1 minute breaks. I use my remote to fast forward, but I would rather just get on with the workout. The other day I got so frustrated I wanted to throw the darn thing out the window! It claims to be 45 minutes, but I think that the actual workout time is closer to 30-35 minutes. If you are someone that is new to any type of exercise, this might be for you.
Other than that complaint, I find the workout a pretty good one for kettlebell beginners and I would probably rate it 3-4 stars otherwise. The music could be a little better.
