Product Description P90X® Chin-Up Bar
Develop and strengthen your shoulders, back, and arms with this high-grade training tool featuring multiple grip positions. (Used with P90X Fitness System)
Amazon.com Product Description Built for durability and comfort, the P90X chin-up bar is the ultimate fitness training tool for strengthening and developing your shoulders, back, arms, abs, and more. The P90X--which mounts easily to any doorframe to become your own personal gym--features a patented design with 12 grip positions.
The P90X chin-up bar includes 12 different grip positions. | As a result, you can build multiple muscle groups with a variety of exercises, with the wide-grip positions challenging your upper lats, biceps, and forearm muscles (among many), and the narrow-grip positions putting more emphasis on your lower lats. The P90X bar is also comfortable on the hands thanks to the professional-grade, foam-covered handles, which won't cramp your hands as quickly as steel handles. And once you're done with your workout, it takes just a few minutes to safely remove the P90X and store it under a bed or in a closet. There's no better way to take your upper-body workout to the next level. Made of heavy-gauge steel that holds up to 300 pounds, the P90X fits doorways up to 32 inches wide and requires a sturdy doorframe with trim. The doorway should be a minimum of 5 inches wide and a maximum of 6.5 inches.

Frustrating but functional July 2, 2010 WillyD First off, yes, I have the real Beachbody version. Not a knock-off or generic.
The bar assembly itself is very easy, however it wobbles side to side a bit. Not really enough to notice when you're using it, but still, the engineer in me is bothered to no end by this. The alan screws will not tighten enough to keep this from happening.
The big problem, however, is the brackets. I was unenthusiastic enough to begin with about punching 8 1/4in holes in my wall, and this turned to outright rage when I realized that the directions are incorrect. I measured EXACTLY 13.75in between the inside edges of the brackets, just like it says on the instructions. Believe me, I build things for a living - I installed these brackets to specification. However, 13.75in is too close. The brackets hit the vertical bars that hold up the "bracing" bar (that goes on the opposite side of the door from the handles), which prevents the bracing bar from ever slotting into the brackets.
I refuse to further damage my house or to modify the bar (for fear I may want to return it). Lucky for me, I've realized that the brackets aren't required at all. Huh. You'd think they'd mention something like that somewhere in the instructions...
In short - do not use the brackets. If you DO want to use the brackets, measure the space yourself, so that the horizontal bracing bar will slot properly in them, and not be obstructed by the two L-shaped bars that connect it to the side with the handles. I have not measured but I would estimate you'd want either 10in (to slot between the L-shaped bars) or 15in (to slot on the outside). Definitely not anywhere between 12-14in though.
Good bar, not perfect... June 27, 2010 R. Williams (New Jersey) and for the price and BeachBody name I was hoping for perfect. The first thing you will notice about this bar is it's heavy. This is a plus as you want something strong and sturdy you're going to be exercising on. The assembly isn't exactly smooth for someone who actually likes to have instructions available to them, but no big deal, just look at the picture for awhile. The cushioning and rubber on this bar is good and easy on the hands/ door frame. How ever after everything was assembled correctly and tightly the L shaped part that slides together to make it a wide grip bar isn't completely sturdy. If you read some other reviews this seems to be a common problem. It doesn't seem to effect the bar when in use, still worth mentioning as I was less than confident doing my first pull up on this bar. I purchased this bar as an upgrade from my iron gym bar (the basic one, not the wide grip bar they also offer) If you don't need a wide grip in your exercises, then in my opinion go with another bar (like iron gym) that is completely stable. Even though this bar isn't perfect i'm still overall happy with my purchase and think anyone else looking for a wide grip bar with several different pull up positions will be happy as well.
Not as expected June 24, 2010 Aym I thought it woul be bracket free. It didn't work for me and it was not explained that you would need brackets.
P90X Chin-Up Bar May 27, 2010 Roseanne Fisher It is well made, easy to assemble and install, and is everything I expected it to be.
Get the job done, and does it well May 26, 2010 sleo91 (Cali) Hi, I got this Chin-up bar with the P90X workout program and I was not sure what to expect when I got it, but it was really easy to put everything together, and it's so easy to use.
I'm pretty tall and big and this bar works perfect, one of my friend who is way over 250 pounds did some chin up on it and the bar held perfectly like it did for me for 2 years that I've been using it.
One of the great things about it is the fact that there's so many grip on it, close, regular, wide, different hand position to make it more challenging for you when you work out.
And also the fact that you can just put it up and workout in a room, then take it out to put it away or use it in another room without having to undo anything, but a little advice, if your door way is a little small, put some padding between the bar and the door frame, to avoid messing up your door, like a pair of socks rolled up or a towel.
Overall, Great product and I'm really satisfied with my Chin-up Bar
